Stem Cell Research Foundation's
First Grant Awarded To John D. Gearhart
The Stem Cell Research Foundation (SCRF) has awarded its first research grant to John D. Gearhart, Ph.D., of the Johns Hopkins
School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. The foundation was established in 2000 to help fund cutting-edge research in the
new science. Dr. Gearhart and his co-investigator, Michael J. Shamblott, Ph.D., also of Johns Hopkins, will be working with
human pluripotent stem cells in an attempt to develop a hardier, more useful stem cell line than currently existing ones while
reducing or even eliminating animal growth factors that could have a contaminating effect.
